Yushchenko asking Spain for medical equipment for swine flu treatment in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has asked Spain to provide medical equipment to help treat people infected with A/H1N1 virus in Ukraine
The Ukrainian president said this at a meeting with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, which is on an official visit in Ukraine, Yuschenko's press service reported.
President Yuschenko repeated his invitation to King Juan Carlos I of Spain to visit Ukraine. In turn Moratinos conveyed greetings of the King of Spain Juan Carlos I to the Ukrainian president.
The Ukrainian president and the Spanish foreign minister discussed the preparations to the Ukraine-EU summit in December. The parties exchanged opinions on the state and the prospects of the talks on the Association Agreement with the European Union. "One of the key issues on the agenda of the relations between Ukraine and the European Union is liberalization of the visa requirements," Yuschenko stressed.
Yuschenko also said that Ukraine is interested in the growth of Spanish investments inflow to Ukraine and noted that the state will support first of all the investment projects in the frames of Ukraine's preparations for hosting the Euro 2012 finals.

Flu epidemic in Ukraine claims 70

Seventy people, among them three children and two pregnant women, have died of flu and respiratory diseases in Ukraine, the health ministry has confirmed. 
Thirty people died of flu in Lviv region as of 1700 on Monday, 16 in Ternopol region, 12 in Ivano-Frankivsk region, five in Chernivtsi region and two each in Volyn, Zakarpattia and Rivne regions. One patient died of flu in Khmelnytsky region, the health ministry's press service said.

Lviv region receives 18,000 doses of Tamiflu

Lviv region receives 18, 040 doses of Tamiflu, a medicine used to treat or prevent flu, out of the batch, which arrived in Ukraine on Monday night, the regional state administration's press service reported.
The medicine will be distributed among the medical establishments and will be handed to the patients only by prescription.
Earlier, Lviv regional governor Mykola Kmit said that the region already has 2, 500 doses of Tamiflu.

Death toll from flu, acute respiratory infections in Lviv region rises to 37

Lviv, November 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Thirty-seven people have died of flu and acute respiratory infections in Lviv region as of 0700 on Tuesday, the press service of Lviv Regional State Administration has told Interfax-Ukraine.
The overall number of patients is 104, 019, including 49, 313 children aged below 14.
A total of 2, 875 people have been hospitalized, including 1, 197 children aged below 14.
Over 30 people died of flu and acute respiratory infections in Lviv region as of 1700 on Monday, the Health Ministry said. Seventy fatalities were registered in Ukraine at that moment.

Ukraine has 22 confirmed cases of swine flu

Twenty-two cases of the A(H1N1) influenza, commonly known as swine flu, have been officially confirmed in Ukraine, First Deputy Health Minister Vasyl Lazoryshynets said at a briefing on Monday.
He said that according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, if even one swine flu case is detected in any region, medical treatment would be conducted in the whole region in line with the prodecure on fighting this disease.
He said that a respective treatment procedure had been drafted by the Health Ministry and sent to the regions.

Medicines bought at state's cost to be sent directly to hospitals

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has said that the medicines bought at with state funds will be sent only to medical establishments.
She said this at a briefing after a meeting with pharmaceutical producers and producers of medical equipments in Kyiv on Monday.
"We will send all these medicines only to hospitals, not to drugstores, as the state is not able to provide all private drugstores with medicines. We're doing this so that people can go to doctors for first aid," she said.
The prime minister also noted that supplies of Tamiflu for the prevention and treatment of swine flu have been already distributed and sent to the regions.
"We will strictly control the delivery of this medicine to hospitals" she said.
The prime minister also said that the state had obtained 7.5 million meters of gauze for gauze masks to prevent the spread of theА/Н1N1 virus and other strains of flu.
According to Tymoshenko, a total of 350 million masks could be made from this gauze.

Swine Flu Could Postpone CL Match Between Dynamo Kiev & Inter

The Ukrainian authorities have warned that there could be some unexpected interruptions to football matches, according to Goal.com.
Inter`s clash against Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League could be postponed due to the spread of swine flu in the Ukraine, according to prime minister Yulia Timoshenko on Friday.
The H1NI influenza has put the game which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 4 at risk. The Ukrainian authorities have a number of measures in place to help curb the spread of the virus, but they could take further action and cancel the game.
"Everything that relates to football competitions will be evaluated through consultations and discussions," Timoshenko is quoted as saying in La Repubblica.
There have been 11 deaths in the Ukraine which have been linked to swine flu and the authorities have postponed major events in the country for three weeks. The measures could see the game being affected.
The Nerazzurri are currently bottom of their group, one point behind Dynamo who are in second.
